ASUS Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX

|

Another week goes by and another board has crossed my test bench! You know, I've covered many Intel Z77 Express products in the past few months, but a couple of them just stick in my head. The one that really sticks is, of course, the Maximus V Gene.

Asus Maximus V Formula

I've always been one to post many pictures of my rigs on the forums. In recent years, I've had the Maximus III Gene, which I bought myself to start off my motherboard reviews, then the Maximus IV Gene which ASUS sent, and, lastly, the Maximus V Gene, another board ASUS sent me. I used all three in my gaming rigs, pictures of which you can find posted on the forum. Having had the two previous iterations of the Maximus mATX product line was a great experience, not only because I happened to have some of the best mATX overclocking board products. I got to, at the same time, see how the technology progressed with Asus's own vision of the ROG

ASUS P9X79 Pro Motherboard Review

|

OK, just to start; this is a brand new motherboard, as well as the rest of the hardware components. I already have had this up an running, with zero issues and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed; played Battlefield 3 max settings, 1080p, 64 player online perfectly - just as an example. So this is NOT a hardware issue - everything is brand new out of the box. The only reason why I'm running into boot issues now is due to my own mistake, (probably from being way too tired).

Asus P9X79 PRO

First thing is first.. I made a very big, and stupid mistake. When I went to ASUS's website to download the newest bios version for my ASUS P9X79 Pro Motherboard BIOS so I have enhanced capability for overclocking my CPU and GPU. The 2002 version to be exact. The problem, I misread something entirely and ignored the fact that I actually need the converter ROM file because of my BIOS version being older. It was version 0806 as the PROM code states on the Motherboard.

Review: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme

Motherboards taken to the extreme ...

If the Intel Sandy Bridge-E processor series is going to do anything, then it's igniting a series of hardware upgrades amongst the hardcore hardware aficionado's of you. That's right, the X79 chipset based motherboards have arrived and there's okay, good, better and best (it works vice versa for your wallet btw). As such it's now time to cover one of the most high-end enthusiast X79 motherboards we could lay our hands on, it's the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme.

In this connected world, there are 3 basic methods of getting information from one computer to another. All 3 have their advantages. And disadvantages. These methods are:

Wired Ethernet networking provides the fastest and highest quality signal. However, running cable can get quite expensive to run in homes that do not lend itself to running cable. It also severely limits the mobility of mobile computers such as notebooks and netbooks.

TP-LINK TD-W8961ND ADSL2+ Modem Router Review

|

I was using this cheap BSNL modem with 3 years old Trendnet Wireless router to surf internet wirelessly . My problem started after getting replacement modem from BSNL. I notice that my ping test was very long (892ms-1056ms). Earlier it was around( 100-115ms). I am not getting enough speed on torrent either, the speed was not at all stable. Average speed was below the speed of my connection. Internet connection keep on dropping, I have to restart the modem and wireless router numerous times to get the net connected.

Sometimes troubleshooting from Network Sharing Center in Windows 7 corrects my problem related to internet connection. Still this issue didn’t forced me to buy new wireless modem router. But after getting connection timeout issue with Android device such as Micromax Funbook, NXG Xtab Plus, and LG Optimus P500 forced me again to reconsider Wireless modem router purchase. From Tab or Android device Google Play store was not opening when you need to configure it for first time. Browsing was not fluid either. In speedtest.net from android device, I found that upload speed pointer was not moving at all. Download speed was fine but zero upload speed. That’s the reason I am getting connection timeout issue I think .

Tomato Best Firmware for Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS

|

If you own a Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS router you are probably aware that there are few alternative firmware's out there that squeeze more out of hardware that original hardware. Especially if you are doing some P2Ping, since default Linksys's settings are sub-optimal.

I have been running DD-WRT for a while know and it treated me nice. But after yesterday's IM chat with a friend I decided it's time to try something new.

Tomato is a small and simple replacement firmware by Jonathan Zarate, who has also developed another well know firmware HyperWRT +Tofu.

Unbrick Your Legacy WRT54G Linksys Router

|

A while back, I was having some issues with my Linksys Router. It was a WRT54GS v5. A perfectly good router back then, but whenever I connected to it with my shiny new Windows 7 laptop via Wi-Fi, my network connection slowed to a crawl. I tried everything and changed all of the router settings, to no avail.

The real problem turned out to be a few settings in Windows 7 (long story), but I didn’t discover that before I had completely bricked my Linksys router.

DOCSIS 2.0 vs 1.0 : Don't Count Cables Guys Out

|

Its fairly fashionable to dismiss cable service providers and their HFC (and) coax networks, especially when compared to the new fangled fiber and copper-fiber hybrid network being planned by phone companies. In the near term cable guys are better equipped to handle the triple play offerings. (Though their lack of wireless offering is likely to become a headache for them.) Even in the longer term, things are not that bleak for them, thanks to DOCSIS 2.0. (Lets not forget DOCSIS 3.0, the newest iteration of the standards being planned by CableLabs. I am pretty sure there is going to tons of exciting developments there, though right now its a nice little acronym.)

Charter and DOCSIS 3.0 : Motorola SB6120 Review

|

I subscribe to one of the cheapest broadband options in the area, Charter’s “Express” cable service, which is advertised as an 8Mb downstream / 1Mb upstream service on a DOCSIS 2.0 cable network. Believing Charter’s DOCSIS 2.0 claim, I plugged in a cheap Linksys CM100 cable modem when we first signed up. After observing nearly double the advertised download speeds, I started to wonder if Charter’s sales representatives were mistaken. We’re in a brand new neighborhood just 20 miles east of St. Louis. Why wouldn’t they have hooked up fancy new DOCSIS 3.0 lines?
