iPhone alarm fails again, who was late for work this weekend?

|
How embarrassing is this for Apple? Back in November the alarm on iOS devices failed due to a bug associated with daylight saving time. Everyone got up an hour late causing all kinds of problems.

Now it seems the same problem has struck again over the first two days of 2011. The Apple Discussions board has a thread entitled “iPhone 4 alarm not working since 01.01.2011.” Entries include lots of angry iPhone owners whose alarm just did not go off making them very late for work.
Here’s a couple of examples:
Mine doesn’t work either. Apple needs to bloody fix this, it is the second time when this is happening (first daylight savings, now this) . What is so freaking hard to get a simple thing like this right? iPhone 4, iOS 4.2.1 GMT+12 (+13 ds) NZ
iOS 4.1, alarm clock not working on iPhone 4. I missed an important meeting this morning, Apple should really be ashamed of their quality check department.
One fix was found by user beacall:

Same for both mine and my wife’s iPhone 4 4.2.1. Her work woke us up. I found a short fix while testing it out. If you setup a repeat alarm for the day you want it to go off it works. I don’t know why but it works, if I don’t set the repeat the alarm does not sound. Hope it helps some people but Apple… Fix it please!
Apple confirmed the issue existed with a less than helpful response:
We’re aware of an issue related to non-repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2. Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3.
If this caught you out over the last two days let us know what happened. I’m sure it ruined a few first weekends of 2011. Read Full Article
