Do PHP Links Pass PR?

|

Some webmasters use scripted links instead of normal HTML links.

This can be done for a variety of reasons, including tracking outgoing clicks and preventing PR (Page Rank) transfer to the destination page.

A PHP scripted link will look something like this:

http://sneakysite.com/link.php?id=303

If you are trading reciprocal links with another web site, you want to be certain that the link they are giving you actually transfers PR.

Some scripted links pass PR and some do not.

One tool you have to help you determine if the remote link is passing PR is to examine their robots.txt file.

If Googlebot is disallowed from reading the script, or from reading the directory in which the script resides, the PHP scripted links will not pass PR.

There are other tricks that can be used to prevent PR transfer via PHP-scripted links. When trading reciprocal links, the best thing to do is to require a plain HTML link.
